For the life of me I cannot understand why motorway driving is not a major element of the driving test as many people go straight from passing their test to motorway driivng with no help. I appreciate you can do a course later on motorway driving but thats not the point.

Even before I passed my driving test I was scared of driving on motorway roads for a number of reasons:-

• The high speeds people drive at
• Difficulty in concentrating
• Long journeys tire me
• I feel claustrophobic in tailbacks
• Roadworks are a nightmare

As you can see, I have a number of issues when it comes to my fear of driving on motorways which I need to overcome. I have heard of two different techniques:-

• Therapy
• Exposure

While therapy is not something I had ever thought of, I didn’t know phobia therapists even existed, this is something I would consider. Exposure therapy sounds like make or break to me. In my mind, I think it could make me worse rather than better. Does anybody have any advice?

If I feel uncomfortable when driving I make sure the windows are open (unless its raining lol) so that I as cool as possible. As soon as I start to panic I sweat which make me feel more uncomfortable and it just spirals from there. Does anyone else have any techniques they use to calm themselves down?
