I was wondering if there is a link between phobias/anxiety and obsession - are those who have suffered/are suffering from anxiety more likely to experience some form of obsessive compulsive disorder?

I personally think they’re is a definite link. A few years ago I suddenly developed a phobia about my teeth. I was terrified at the thought of getting gum disease and losing them. It was completely random because I wasn’t suffering with any teeth problems and they were actually very healthy. I got to a point where I was thinking and talking about them obsessively, constantly checking them in the mirror, seeing if they were wobbly and over-cleaning them.I had a full blown obsession and it wasn’t until I went to the dentist ( big deal for me because I’m scared of the dentist) and he assured me my teeth were healthy and I certainly didn’t have gum disease that the obsession faded.

Without doubt - once one of the links is broken it is easier to get your life back on track
