Is my fear of opening letters a common phobia?

I have a genuine fear of opening letters, which is also known asapostasiophobia, and I was just wondering whether this is a common phobia. In fact, I am not even sure if this is phobia or a genuine fear?

This fear of opening letters seems to have got worse since the cost of living crisis and I think it may be linked to the fear of new bills and demands through the post. After all, how many of us actually get good news for the post these days? I suppose, if it looks like a phobia, feels like a phobia then surely it is a phobia?

Has anyone else experienced this really genuine fear?

Rest assured, you are not alone!

It is very rare that we get any good news through the post these days, it’s usually bills and reminders which prey on our minds until the next payday. Slowly but surely, I am realising that the best way to challenge this type of fear is to face whatever is in the letters. In the past I put them to one side, left them for a few days and then opened them, but it has been on my mind since it was posted through the letterbox.

Is a better to face your fears in this situation?
