Looking from the outside in it may seem that those with social anxiety are shy, retiring and not willing to mix. However, what we see on the surface is not always a reflection of what is going on underneath.
Those with social anxiety issues do not want to be alone, they do not want to be excluded from social activities and do not want to be ignored. While it may seem hard work talking with somebody struggling to socialise can you imagine how they feel? The frustration and the anger they feel because they are not able to fully integrate in social situations leads to more anxiety which can make their situation even worse.
So next time you see somebody struggling to socialise or mix in small or large crowds why not go over, say a quick hello and spend just 30 seconds with them?
